Ari & Mary’s wedding, or at least the situation in which I was lucky enough to photograph it, was providential in the best sense of the word; when Mary first wrote me I had a previous booking on the day of her wedding and had to turn her down, but the very next day that previous booking canceled and I was able to get Mary into that spot immediately! Not to mention that what would have been a single day of shooting in Portland turned into an overnight camping trip in the McKenzie River wilderness at Loloma Lodge with home cooked breakfast the next day. I say fair trade, fair trade indeed.
Ari & Mary are a couple of relaxed, earthy, genuinely “Portlandy” people and their style inspired me to take a vintage angle in their photography, plus the lodge site was crawling with retro vibes, from sweet old bicycles to chalk wall art to stone angels and strings of light bulbs it had a very “hippie commune” feel. You know, without all the linen robes and tambourines and whatnot.
Ari and his groomsmen grew out their beards in honor of the special day and after the reception they quietly slipped away from their ladies and shaved the beards into some seriously questionable mustaches, none more so than Ari’s who’s ‘stache transformed his look from modern hipster to shall we say 1970s “adult entertainer”, much to Mary’s dismay.
